Quarter finalists decided at the China Sevens
Jen Kish led Canada to two wins and a draw on day one in Guangzhou

After a thrilling first day of action at the China Sevens, it's New Zealand, Canada and Australia who lead the field going into Day two.

The quarter-finalists were decided on Saturday at the University Town Stadium in Guangzhou, where enthusiastic crowds turned out to watch round four of the Series.

The sun was out over the Guangdong Province on Saturday, despite the clouds that were prevalent for most of the week in south-east China. With the pitch in great condition and good ground for running Rugby, fans were treated to thrills, spills and competitive fixtures.

A few shocks were witnessed on day one - Fiji turned over England in a tense match, England regained their composure to upset Australia while Russia held Canada to a draw in their final pool match.

However, the surprise package of the day was Fiji who played hard and fast Rugby on the dry ground in Guangzhou. They've been rewarded for their efforts with a Cup quarter-final spot against Russia.

Sunday will also see Australia, who were eager to build on their performance in the last round in Brazil, face Spain in the last eight.

New Zealand, who only conceded one try in their three matches will play France in the last eight of the Cup. Captain Huriana Manuel was happy with her side's performance.

"We went well. Our main focus was our defence and looking at the first two games we kept it at zero. We let one try in in the thrid match (against Spain) but we're just hard on ourselves."

"I know that all the teams will bring it tomorrow as it's finals day - the second day is always the toughest."

The other quarter final will feature Canada against England, who, despite starting the day with a loss to Fiji, will be happy with their win over Australia.
