Tickets on sale for WSWS in Atlanta
The Road to Rio is getting shorter and the anticipation and excitment is building. And nowhere more than in Atlanta. Georgia in the United States.
The city that hosted the 1996 Olympic Games will host the second round of the 2013/2014 IRB Women's Sevens World Series at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University next February.
With Rugby on the rise Stateside, the 9,000-seat stadium will host Atlanta 7s on February 15-16, 2014, as well as the second leg of the IRB Rugby World Cup 2015 Qualifier between the USA Eagles and Uruguay on March 29, 2014.
Tickets for the "double-header" have now gone on sale. The international ticket package will give fans the opportunity to witness the speed of women’s international sevens and the intensity of men’s international 15s. Fans who purchase the international ticket package will receive a 20% discount on the match with the purchase of a 2-day WSWS pass.
At last year’s IRB Women’s Sevens World Series in Houston, Texas, the Women’s Eagles Sevens made it to an enthralling Cup Final and finished second to England. The Eagles eventually finished fourth on the circuit after four tournaments and took home bronze from the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow, Russia.
The inaugural WSWS event was won by New Zealand, and its success has caused the IRB to add two stops to the women’s circuit. Sau Paulo, Brazil, will host the third stop and the IRB will announce the sixth at a later date.
“We are looking forward to hosting our women’s sevens tournament in Atlanta this year,” USA Rugby Events Director Jen Gray said.
“Atlanta is an international city and did a fantastic job with the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. With Rugby Sevens being added to the Olympic Program in 2016, Atlanta seems a perfect fit for this event.”
