Jen Kish, Canada captain: "We have to keep our penalty count down. We also have to keep on to the ball and not let the other teams dictate what we do. We are always trying to come out and give a good fight."
Broken play allows New Zealand to score with the last play of the game to take it to 12-12. Just as Tyla Nathan-Wong took the conversion, the referree blew the whistle for Full time and warned that she had taken too long to take the kick. Contoversial stuff? You decide! Patient play by Cananda as they go through the phases deep in the New Zealand half but the ball is fumbled on the New Zealand line. Following the defending scrum, Canada turn the ball over and cross the line to lead 12-7 with 1 min 30 sec remaining. Exciting stuff here at #Dubai7s
Pressure coming from Canada at the end of the first half. New Zealand conceding several penatlies and the pressure pays off as Canada cross the line. Half time score 7-5 to New Zealand.
Abi Chamberlain, England's Sevens Captain after beating Spain said: "Fantastic result, couldn't have asked for more than that. We got what we deserved I think. We started off quite slowly, but we have built on every game and bonded as a team. If we hit the ground running tomorrow, pick up where we left off today, then we have a good shot."
A lovely side step by Portia Woodman opens the scoring for New Zealand. The conversion is over and they lead Canada 7-0. They are keeping up the pressure.

Australia defeat USA 15-7 and England beat Spain 17-7. Both teams go through to tomorrow's Quarter Final.
Sarah Ruth Laybourn shows great pace and scores her second try of the game, England lead 12-7.
Berta Garcia steps inside the English defence and goes under the posts. Spain draw level 7-7 with England at the break. USA pull a try back and they now only trail Australia 10-7. Exciting stuff here at the #Dubai7s.

Emilee Cherry scores her second try of the match and Australia now lead USA 10-0. A great solo effort from Sarah Ruth Laybourn and she open the scoring for England. The conversion is successful and they now lead 7-0.
Australia take an early lead against the USA as Emilee Cherry scores. We are also underway between England and Spain.
Netherlands defeat France 14-12 and South Africa beat Brazil 19-5 in their final matches on day one.
Mara Williams of South Africa sees yellow for a deliberate knock on and Brazil capitalise to score in the corner. 7-5 to South Africa.
It's a very open match between South Africa and Brazil and Thais Rocha sees yellow. South Africa take advantage and score with the last play of the half and they lead 7-0. The Netherlands lead France 7-5.
We are underway as South Africa take on Brazil and Netherlands take on France.
In the last play of the game, Russia take a quick line out throw in their own half and spread the ball wide and cross the line in the corner. Full time score 27-0.
A big hand off from Navrat Khamidova and she goes over in the corner. There's no way back now for China as they trail 20-0.
Nadezda Yarmotskaya crosses the line for Russia, great solo effort from a scrum midway in China's half. They lead 15-0
China are looking for a way through but the Russian defence stays strong. 10-0 to Russia at the break.
They instantly double their lead to 10-0 as Ekaterina Kazakova scores. It's all uphill now for China.
China's Huang Meike is sin binned and Russia take full advantage as Baizat Khamidova crosses the line for the opening try, conversion is missed. Russia lead 5-0.

Tess Veldhuis of the Netherlands Women's Sevens team after victory over USA: "It's great. It was a hard game, very physical, they played very well but we are very happy we beat them. One second I just look around and think it is wonderful to play in front of so many people, but then I have to focus on the game."

Russia hit back for their first try of the game from Ekaterina Kazakova. New Zealand still lead 12 - 5 with less than 2 mins remaining.

Some fantastic passing by New Zealand and Kayla McAlister steps inside to cross the line. Pien Selbeck gets the conversion, they lead 12-0.
Russia pressurising the all blacks late in the first half but the whistle goes. It's 5-0 at the break.
Attacking scrum from New Zealand in the Russia 22. They pile on the pressure and throw the ball wide to Carla Hohepa and she opens the scoring. Conversion unsuccessful.

It's black against white as New Zealand face Russia next
Chris Lane, Australia coach: "This is a great tournament. The crowd is sensational, the competition is tough. We have had two good wins but we have a tough one next against USA. But we are enjoying the experience. Each tournament we come to, the standard gets higher and higher."
Fantastic interplay by Canada and Cheryl Phillips crosses the line with the conversion successfully converted. They immediately score another try and Canada defeat China 32-0.
China looking to hit back. Terrible conditions as the rain gets heavier here at #Dubai7s, conditions very difficult and the ball is very greasy leading to handling errors by both sides.
Canada 20 - 0 China
We are underway between Canada v China, and Canada take the lead early on through Ashley Steacy. They immediately double their lead to 10-0 in dreadful conditions here with the rain pouring down and flashes of lightning to bee seen.
Another upset on day one as Spain defeat South Africa 5-0 under the floodlights. Another result is USA 7 -Netherlands 12. Things are hotting up here, que the cheerleaders...

Australia defeat France 29-0 while England win convincingly 22-0 against Brazil.
The English defence is very robust and they turn over their opponents and pile on the pressure as Sarah Ruth Laybourn crosses the line for England, 17-0.
England putting Brazil under a lot of pressure, and it pays off as Jane Leonard croses the line with the last play of the half, they lead 12-0. Elsewhere Australia lead France 19-0 at the break.
Australia take a 12-0 lead against France.
Opening try is by Sarah Ruth Laybourn of England, a well worked try. They lead 7-0. Brazil playing from deep and England's defence putting them under a lot of pressure.

Two upsets here so far on day one, in the inaugural Women's Sevens World Series - Russia beat Canada 15-12 and South Africa defeat England 20-5. Elsewhere New Zealand looked strong against China beating them 31-0.
